Foodie Friday: September is National Family Meals Month!

Newport Avenue Market recognizes how important it is to share a meal with friends and family. And, in recognition of National Family Meals Month, we want to encourage our shoppers to share at least one meal together and jump-start a tradition that will be beneficial in a number of ways!

Think of the children!

Family meals eaten at home have been proven to benefit the health and wellness of children and adolescents. The quality time and real food help to fight obesity, substance abuse, and make families stronger, which in turn creates a positive impact on our communities.

At Newport Avenue Market, you’ll find that nearly every aisle has an easy, healthy mealtime solution for any (or all) diet restrictions and preferences. Gluten free? We have it! Organic? Yep! Fresh produce? Si! Sustainably-grown Oregon meat? Come on down, because we got it!

Slow cook, braise, bake, deep-fry – it doesn’t matter. What matters most is spending quality time and sharing a meal with the most important people in the world – your family.

We know that juggling jobs, kids and the demands of a busy, modern life often come at the expense of family mealtime at home. You don’t have to panic because we have a list of quick dinner ideas that you can actually make on a weeknight.

7 Quick Meals to Share with your Family this week:

1. Creamy Caprese Quinoa Bake

2. Mediterranean Shrimp & Couscous

A meal in less than 30 minutes? Yes, please! Table conversations don’t have to end after catching up with your kids’ academic and extra-curricular activities. How about talking about different cultures and introducing them to new and exciting things like – couscous?

3. Salmon Provençal

There’s a reason why people are increasingly consuming oily fish – they’re nutritionally dense superfood!

4. Caribbean Pork Chops with Mango Salsa

Here’s a recipe that you can share, and not just with family. This would be great for an end of summer barbecue with friends and family.

You can cut prep and cooking time even more – come by our Produce Department and ask about Mary’s Mango Salsa!

5. Pad Thai

How about Asian cuisine for a change? Skip the takeout and make Pad Thai at home!

6. American Goulash

Ask our pack leader, Lauren, what to make for family dinner and she’ll say “American Goulash!” then you’ll have a long conversation about the difference between American Chop Suey and American Goulash. Perhaps East Coast-West Coast rivalry doesn’t end with rap and hip-hop, but hey – now you can talk to your teenagers about hip-hop coastal rivalry!

7. Mexican Chicken Skillet Dinner

Mexican cuisine in less than 15 minutes? Si, por favor! The less time you spend cooking, the more time you’ll have for catching up and having fun with your family.

If all else fails, we’ve got your back! Come by our store for some grab-and-go items for your family – salads, rotisserie chicken, pizza (ready for your oven), and of course, our sushi blessed by Morris.

Remember, life is short, eat good food with your family!
