Beer of the Week: Elysian Brewing Night Owl Pumpkin Ale
Fall has officially found its way to Newport’s Wall of Beer. This week’s pick is Elysian Brewing Night Owl, a pumpkin ale made with real pumpkin and the kind of warm spices that make you want to put on a sweater even if it is still sunny outside.
What’s in Night Owl?
Elysian brews Night Owl with pumpkin, then adds nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, ginger, and allspice. Vanilla and caramel notes round out the flavor before a gently roasty finish. The result is a medium-bodied beer that tastes like fall without asking you to drink an entire pumpkin pie.
At 6.7% ABV and 18 IBUs, Night Owl puts its pumpkin and spice flavors up front, with relatively little hop bitterness. It’s an inviting pick for someone who already loves seasonal beer, and a fun place to start if you’ve never tried a pumpkin ale.
What should you pair it with?
