It’s hard to believe that, hot on the heels of Christmas and New Year’s, the month of February is historically one of the hardest hitting months for hungry families in Central Oregon. In its fourth year, Newport Avenue Market’s Food for February kicks off on Dec. 1! Last year, you, our generous customers, donated an astounding $21,278.57 which we matched dollar-for-dollar, totaling $42,557.14!
With all donations going to Family Kitchen of Bend, we were able to supply a full years’ worth of meals for our neighbors in Bend. We’re talking 2,340 gallons of milk, 18,720 eggs, 1,560 pounds of Boar’s Head lunch meats, 780 pounds of cheese, 1,770 pounds of bananas, 7,800 pounds of Oregon Country Beef, chicken, pork, seafood items, 780 pounds of tomatoes, 200 pounds of hot dogs and 54 cans of chili have been donated, just to name a few! Wow!
This Year’s Goal is $50,000 to Family Kitchen.
Let’s work together to surpass last year’s numbers! Join us in helping provide food for hungry families in Central Oregon. We’re asking you to donate any amount of cash to Food for February beginning December 1 and Newport Avenue Market will match 100% of your generosity (dollar for dollar, up to $25,000!). This year’s food purchase will once again be given to Family Kitchen, located in Bend.
To participate:
- Come into Newport Ave. Market between December 1-31
- Let the cashier know how much you’d like to donate to Food for February
- Write your name on your “paper plate” for us to display proudly, take a photo of your plate or a selfie, and post on your social network site using #FoodforFebruary
- Keep track of results on our Facebook page and in our emails
Thank you for your generosity and for helping us support our neighbors in their time of need.
